NEHEMIAH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Written by Jae-In Joo, Evan Sim & Bomi Park
This summer, we were blessed to have three college students from the University of Chicago join us at the NGI home office. The three interns, Mary, Yeonsu, and Jacob, joined our staff to assist in making videos, promotional materials, assist with fundraising, and work on our website. Additionally, they joyfully assisted in teaching English to many North Korean young adults through our NES program.
Each of these students applied to the NGI Summer Internship Program to fulfill their vision and dream for their futures. Thankfully the University of Chicago has a strong internship program with many organizations, companies, and NGOs like NGI. Such a strong program allowed Mary, Yeonsu, and Jacob to join us, uplifting our staff, impacting the lives of our North Korean Brothers and Sisters, and changing their lives forever.
Let us introduce our 2019 Summer Interns to you…
Mary
Mary is a Chinese-Canadian Student with a sweet smile and love for Korea. In her own words, “I am very thankful for doing the internship program at NGI. If I had more time to stay here, I would’ve made more videos for NGI. Even though the internship program was too short, I was able to have confidence in my future. Once again, I appreciate your kindness and consideration.”
Yeonsu
Yeonsu is a Korean student who has studied abroad in the United States of America and Israel since her childhood. She stated, “I was not sure about God before coming to NGI. Through this internship program, I was able to grow and learn many things. Mainly, I am thankfully speechless for encountering God once again through my work with NGI. I will be faithful in studying and in my walk with Jesus when I return to Chicago. Thank you to all of the NGI staff for my enjoyable time with you.”
Jacob
He is a half Korean-American that was raised with a keen awareness of North Korea, as his grandfather was North Korean. According to Jacob, “It was very natural for me to be part of the Korean culture. Through my experience I was able to learn and know God’s heart for North Korea and North Korean refugees in a more profound way. I appreciate NGI giving me a such a precious opportunity to make a website, and I hope we can continue to have fellowship with each other. Thank you all.”
Nehemiah Internship Program is open to anyone, regardless of gender or nationality. We welcome those who are willing to help us with their talents/gifts and know more of God’s heart for the Korean Peninsula in the near future.
