Partner with us to rebuild North Korean refugees through Spring
Hi, $%name%$ this is Missionary Kenneth Bae.
With signs of spring in the air, I am reminded of the new life and hope found in Christ Jesus. With this in mind, I pray that each of you is experiencing God’s gentle love and newness of life.
Nehemiah English School (NES) recently presented seven-week English Discipleship Training School. This program was such a precious and fruitful time spent in fellowship and learning. (Please refer to the previous letter.) With the close of that program, we are now gearing up and in the height of preparations for our spring semester of English language classes. Enrollment has increased, and we pray that God sends all of the helping hands needed to shine a hopeful light during this special time.
As we’ve noted in the past, learning English is very important to the growth and success of refugees. With this in mind, I would like to introduce you to a few students whose lives have been positively impacted by their attendance at Nehemiah English School.# HyungWook’s Story
Through Nehemiah English School, I not only learned English but also changed my perspective on my life. I learned to cherish my future and to live my life more meaningfully. I realized that I only cared about my life since I settled down in South Korea. But, as I saw the devotion of the teachers towards the North Korean refugee students, I became determined to share my talent in the future as well.
Many North Korean refugee students understand that they need to study English, but they don’t know how to start. I was one of them. However, the teachers taught me how to study the language and use it in real life which has motivated me to study English. Although it may take time, I have a belief that I will be able to achieve my goals at the end. Thus, I will continue to study English hard. When I am good enough to teach others, I will help others in need just like the teachers who taught me.
I have already registered for the spring semester as a full-time student. I can’t wait until the program starts in March. I am grateful that I can continue to study English, as it is quite difficult to get a quality English education. I promise that I will work hard in the upcoming spring semester to achieve my dream!
# YeonJi’s Story
I recently came from North Korea and had no idea how to start learning English.
None of the South Korean students go to college without knowing English. And though I am not a college student yet, I hope to eventually major in nursing. Because I will need to learn medical jargon, which means I have to be familiar with English, I was very concerned. However, after I participated in English Discipleship Training School in winter, I gained the self-confidence needed to learn English, and I am eager to speak English fluently. Honestly, I wouldn’t have thought about this if I did not join the program. Now, I am passionate about English because of the teachers who encouraged me to continue studying.
I have signed up for a part-time speaking course for the spring semester. I would like to communicate in English rather than focusing on grammar or official exams. I will be delighted if I can speak English better and help others from all over the world as a nurse.
Nehemiah English School (NES) provides the next generation of North Korean refugees who will become “Nehemiah of this era” with a holistic education through intensive English training, biblical counseling and worship.. Along with the expansion of knowledge, we help the students to grow spiritually with Christian values, and gain confidence to live as members of South Korean society.
Nehemiah English School proceeds with English Discipleship Training School each semester in 2021 for the next generation of North Korean refugees.
The spring semester will be offered from March 15th to June 4th. It will last for three months, and provides three different courses under the theme of <Shalom: Peace>.
The full-time school will take place from 9am to 6pm, which will require students to focus solely on English. The part-time school will be available for the students who want to study English in their free time. The online English mentoring program will be held for the students who want to have a conversation with native English speakers on a one-on-one basis. A large number of students have shown interest and have already registered for these courses.
We earnestly pray that God sends helping hands to be a part of this special journey.
We firmly believe that your help will let the North Korean refugee students find a new hope and confidence, listen to the gospel, and experience God’s everlasting love.
Your generous donation will cover operational costs for the following:
" If you reach out to the North Korean refugees,
they are no longer alone.
They will walk in the love of God along with the love of supporters.
The lovesupporters send to the students echo in their lives
and work as good soil for their lives, allowing them to sprout, bloom,
and bring forth fruit to become the next “Nehemiah” to this generation,
and to become leaders working to make the Korean Peninsula one nation,
in God's will. "
The North Korean refugee students who come to Nehemiah English School not only learn English but also cultivate confidence and find the true meaning of life. Your devotion and love shed light on the lives of North Korean refugee students. Furthermore, it is undeniable that God works in each student through His unstoppable love.
